Beyond Real Estate: Where You'll Find Me When I'm Not Selling Homes in Northern Virginia
Coffee, great food, travel, time outdoors, and meaningful connections. A personal look at the life behind the real estate business.
When people think about a real estate agent, they often picture property showings, open houses, contract negotiations, and conversations about home prices.
And while those are certainly important parts of my work, there's much more to life than real estate.
When I'm not helping clients buy or sell homes in Northern Virginia, Washington, DC, or the surrounding metropolitan area, I enjoy many of the same simple pleasures that make a place feel like home.
A really good cup of coffee. Discovering a wonderful restaurant. Spending time outdoors. Traveling somewhere new. And, perhaps most importantly, making time for the people who matter most.
These experiences aren't separate from how I think about real estate. In many ways, they shape my approach to helping clients find the right home and community.
Because at the end of the day, home isn't simply the property you purchase. It's the life you create around it.
Here's a little more about where you might find me when I'm not selling houses.
01 | Enjoying a Really Good Cup of Coffee
There's something special about slowing down long enough to enjoy an excellent cup of coffee.
Whether it's discovering an independent café, enjoying a familiar neighborhood favorite, or starting the morning with a quiet moment before a busy day, coffee is one of life's simple pleasures.
I appreciate the atmosphere of a good coffee shop just as much as the coffee itself.
The conversations, the people, and the character of the place all contribute to the experience.
Northern Virginia has no shortage of inviting cafés, from downtown Falls Church and Arlington to Alexandria, McLean, and communities throughout Fairfax County.
And when I travel, finding a great local coffee shop is often one of my favorite ways to get a feel for a new destination.
It's a reminder that some of the most enjoyable experiences are found in ordinary moments.
What Coffee Shops Teach Us About Neighborhoods
A neighborhood's local cafés often reveal something about its personality.
They become familiar gathering places, places to meet friends, or simply somewhere to enjoy a change of scenery.
When helping clients explore homes in Falls Church, Arlington, Alexandria, or elsewhere in Northern Virginia, I believe these everyday details deserve attention.
After all, choosing a home also means choosing the places you'll enjoy visiting regularly.
02 | Discovering Great Restaurants and Local Favorites
Good food has always been one of my favorite ways to experience a place.
I enjoy trying restaurants, discovering new flavors, and returning to places that consistently deliver a memorable meal.
Sometimes that means exploring a restaurant in Washington, DC. Other times, it's enjoying a neighborhood favorite in Falls Church, Arlington, Alexandria, or McLean.
I appreciate the creativity and dedication that go into making a restaurant special.
And while the food matters, so does the experience—the atmosphere, hospitality, conversation, and company.
The Restaurants That Make a Community Memorable
One of the things I appreciate about living and working in the Washington, DC metropolitan area is the variety of dining experiences available.
From neighborhood cafés and casual restaurants to exceptional dining destinations, Northern Virginia offers opportunities to discover something new.
Downtown Falls Church has its own collection of restaurants and local businesses.
Arlington offers diverse dining districts, including Clarendon, Ballston, and Shirlington.
Alexandria's Old Town combines historic surroundings with restaurants, cafés, and waterfront destinations.
And Washington, DC provides an extraordinary range of culinary experiences.
These places contribute to the character of the communities around them.
When clients ask me what it's like to live in a particular neighborhood, I think it's important to discuss more than home prices and square footage.
Where you might enjoy dinner on a Friday evening matters, too.
03 | Spending Time Outdoors and Appreciating Nature
Whether I'm walking, enjoying a beautiful view, or simply spending time outside, being outdoors is an important way for me to recharge.
Northern Virginia offers an appealing balance of natural beauty and metropolitan convenience.
You can enjoy wooded neighborhoods, parks, trails, lakes, and riverfront destinations while remaining connected to Washington, DC and the surrounding region.
One of My Favorite Things About Lake Barcroft
As a longtime Lake Barcroft resident, I have a particular appreciation for the natural beauty of this Falls Church community.
Lake Barcroft is distinctive for its private lake, mature trees, five community beaches, and collection of architecturally interesting homes.
The neighborhood offers opportunities to enjoy the water and the outdoors without leaving the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
That combination of peaceful surroundings and regional accessibility is one of the qualities I appreciate most.
It's also part of what makes Lake Barcroft such an interesting community to introduce to prospective homebuyers.
Northern Virginia's Outdoor Lifestyle
Beyond Lake Barcroft, the region offers numerous opportunities to enjoy nature.
Great Falls Park is known for its dramatic Potomac River scenery.
The Washington & Old Dominion Trail connects communities across Northern Virginia.
Arlington's parks and trails provide outdoor recreation within an urban and suburban setting.
Alexandria's waterfront offers scenic views and places to explore along the Potomac.
These amenities remind me that the appeal of a home extends beyond its walls.
The surrounding environment can have a meaningful influence on everyday life.
04 | Traveling and Discovering Somewhere New
Travel is another passion of mine.
I enjoy visiting new places, experiencing different cultures, exploring architecture, and discovering what makes each destination unique.
Whether I'm walking through a historic European city, visiting museums, exploring local markets, or enjoying a memorable meal, travel offers opportunities to see the world from a different perspective.
Architecture, History, and the Character of a Place
One of the things I find particularly interesting about travel is how cities express their history through architecture.
Buildings tell stories.
They reflect the priorities, craftsmanship, and lifestyles of the people who created them.
Historic neighborhoods, public squares, waterfront communities, and distinctive residential architecture all contribute to a city's identity.
It's something I appreciate both when traveling and when working with real estate clients.
Northern Virginia and Washington, DC have their own architectural diversity, from historic residences and traditional Colonials to midcentury modern homes and contemporary luxury properties.
Every home has a story, and every neighborhood has a character shaped by its surroundings.
Travel Reminds Me What Makes a Place Feel Like Home
When visiting a new destination, I often find that the most memorable experiences aren't necessarily the famous attractions.
Sometimes they're the smaller discoveries.
A café tucked along a quiet street.
An unexpected architectural detail.
A beautiful view.
A conversation over dinner.
These experiences reinforce something I believe about real estate: the value of a place isn't defined solely by its buildings.
It's also defined by how people experience it.
05 | Making Time for the People Who Matter Most
Of all the things I enjoy outside of work, spending meaningful time with the people who matter most is perhaps the most important.
A wonderful meal, an afternoon outdoors, a shared trip, or a simple conversation can become a lasting memory.
These are the experiences that give everyday life meaning.
And they're often the moments that make a house truly feel like home.
A Home Is the Setting for Life's Most Important Moments
When clients begin searching for a home, they naturally focus on practical considerations.
How many bedrooms do they need?
What location makes sense?
How much space would they like?
What features are important?
Those are essential questions.
But I also think about the experiences they hope to enjoy in their new surroundings.
Perhaps it's a comfortable place to entertain friends.
A kitchen that makes cooking and gathering enjoyable.
A patio overlooking a beautiful backyard.
A home office that creates more flexibility.
Or a residence that makes it easier to enjoy the next stage of life.
The right home should support the way you want to live.
That's why I believe understanding a client's goals and priorities is just as important as understanding the real estate market.
06 | How My Interests Shape My Approach to Real Estate
You might wonder what coffee, restaurants, travel, and time outdoors have to do with buying or selling a home.
For me, the connection is straightforward.
Real estate is ultimately about people.
It's about understanding what matters to someone, helping them navigate important decisions, and finding solutions that support their goals.
My interests outside work reinforce the importance of paying attention to the details that make life enjoyable.
Looking Beyond the Property
When helping buyers explore homes in Northern Virginia or Washington, DC, I want them to understand more than the property's specifications.
I want them to consider the surrounding community, nearby amenities, architectural character, and everyday conveniences.
A beautiful home may be appealing, but the right location can make a meaningful difference in how someone experiences daily life.
Appreciating Each Home's Unique Character
My interest in architecture, design, and history also influences how I approach property marketing.
A midcentury modern home in Lake Barcroft deserves a different presentation from a luxury condominium in Rosslyn or a traditional residence in McLean.
Each property has distinctive qualities.
Identifying those characteristics and communicating them effectively is an important part of helping sellers position their homes in the marketplace.
Understanding the Next Chapter
Buying or selling a home often accompanies a significant life transition.
Some clients are relocating for professional opportunities.
Others are searching for more space, downsizing, purchasing a second home, or planning for retirement.
My goal is to understand what they're trying to accomplish and provide guidance that supports those objectives.
Because a successful real estate transaction isn't simply about completing a sale.
It's about helping someone move confidently toward the next chapter of life.
07 | Why Local Knowledge Matters in Northern Virginia Real Estate
One of the advantages of living and working in Northern Virginia is developing an appreciation for the many communities that make the region distinctive.
From Falls Church and Lake Barcroft to Arlington, Alexandria, McLean, Great Falls, Vienna, Reston, Herndon, and Ashburn, each area offers a different combination of homes, amenities, and lifestyle opportunities.
Falls Church and Lake Barcroft
Falls Church offers established neighborhoods, local dining, and convenient access to the broader metropolitan area.
Lake Barcroft adds a distinctive waterfront lifestyle with private lake amenities and an appealing collection of midcentury homes.
Arlington
Arlington offers neighborhoods with different architectural styles, shopping districts, parks, and transportation options.
From the established residential character of Williamsburg Village and Westover to the more urban environment of Rosslyn and Clarendon, buyers can explore a range of settings.
Alexandria
Alexandria combines historic character, waterfront destinations, neighborhood restaurants, and varied residential communities.
Old Town's streetscapes and the surrounding neighborhoods offer distinctive options for buyers.
McLean and Great Falls
McLean and Great Falls are known for a range of residential properties, including luxury homes, larger lots, and architecturally distinctive residences.
Reston, Herndon, and Ashburn
Communities along the Dulles corridor offer a variety of housing styles, recreational amenities, shopping destinations, and access to regional employment centers.
Understanding these differences helps buyers evaluate where they may feel most comfortable.
And for sellers, neighborhood knowledge can help identify the lifestyle and property features that deserve emphasis in marketing.
08 | More Than Real Estate: Helping People Find Their Place
I've spent years helping clients navigate important real estate decisions throughout Northern Virginia and Washington, DC.
My professional background in both law and real estate has shaped an approach grounded in preparation, strategic thinking, negotiation, and personalized guidance.
But beyond contracts, pricing, and marketing, I believe the human side of real estate matters just as much.
People don't simply purchase bedrooms, bathrooms, and square footage.
They purchase a setting for their daily lives.
A place to enjoy quiet mornings.
A place to gather around the dinner table.
A place to relax after work.
A place to celebrate milestones, welcome friends, and create memories.
Those experiences are what make a home meaningful.
And they're part of what makes my work rewarding.
The Bottom Line: Home Is About the Life You Build
When I'm not selling houses, you'll likely find me enjoying a good cup of coffee, trying a restaurant, spending time outdoors, traveling, or making memories with the people who matter most.
These simple pleasures are reminders of what I value.
And they reinforce something I've come to believe through years of working with buyers and sellers:
A home is more than a property. It's the setting for the life you want to live.
Real estate is what I do.
Helping people find the right place for their next chapter is what makes it worthwhile.
And whether you're exploring a move across Northern Virginia, relocating to Washington, DC, or considering selling a longtime home, I'd welcome the opportunity to help you navigate what's next.
