Life Lately in Falls Church, Virginia

Community, Connection, and the Moments Between the Listings

In real estate, people often see the finished product — the listing photos, the sold signs, the market reports, the negotiations, and the closing table celebrations.

But life in Falls Church, Virginia is also made up of the moments in between.

Over the past few weeks, I realized I had quietly collected a camera roll full of memories that capture why I love living and working here. From community events and neighborhood gatherings to music, gardens, and evenings by the lake, these are the experiences that make Northern Virginia feel like home.

Rather than letting those moments stay buried in my phone, I thought I’d share a few highlights from “life lately” around Falls Church and Lake Barcroft.

Volunteering at the Falls Church Memorial Day Parade

Every year, the Memorial Day Parade reminds me why Falls Church has such a strong sense of community. This year, I volunteered at the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce booth and spent the day seeing neighbors, local business owners, families, performers, and community groups come together despite the rainy weather.

The parade is one of those traditions that blends small-town charm with the energy of the greater Washington, DC metro area. There’s music, local organizations, longtime residents reconnecting, and families creating new memories together.

It’s one more reminder that Falls Church is more than a place to live — it’s a place to belong.

Celebrating the First Lake Barcroft Garden of the Month Winners

One of the most rewarding recent projects has been launching the Lake Barcroft Garden of the Month program.

The goal is simple: celebrate neighbors who help make the community beautiful through thoughtful landscaping, creativity, and pride of place. Lake Barcroft has always had an incredible mix of architecture, gardens, and natural beauty, and this program is a way to recognize the people who quietly contribute to that character every day.

Presenting the first award winners was a wonderful moment and a reminder of how much personality and creativity exists throughout the neighborhood.

Sunset Socials at the Lake

Some of the best evenings are the simplest ones.

Our neighborhood Sunset Socials at Lake Barcroft have become one of my favorite community traditions. Neighbors gather near the water, bring food and drinks, catch up on life, and watch the sunset over the lake.

No formal agenda. No pressure. Just community.

There’s something special about ending the day with conversations by the water while boats drift through the background and the light changes across the lake. It’s the kind of lifestyle many people don’t realize exists just minutes from Washington, DC.

Music on the Lake

Another highlight recently was attending Music on the Lake, one of the community traditions I’ve been fortunate to help co-direct over the years.

These intimate concerts bring talented musicians into neighborhood homes overlooking Lake Barcroft, creating an atmosphere that feels personal, artistic, and deeply connected to the community itself.

The combination of live music, lake views, and neighbors gathering together creates an experience that is uniquely Lake Barcroft. It’s one of the many reasons people who move here often stay for decades.

Garden Brunches and Community Connections

Not every meaningful moment is a major event.

Sometimes it’s simply gathering with friends and neighbors for brunch, conversation, and laughter under a tent on a cool spring morning.

Those smaller gatherings often say the most about a community. They reflect the relationships, warmth, and social connection that make a place feel like home.

Real Life, In Between the Listings

As a Falls Church real estate agent, I spend a lot of time helping clients buy and sell homes throughout Falls Church, Falls Church City, Lake Barcroft, Sleepy Hollow, Arlington, Fairfax County, and the greater Washington, DC metro area.

But real estate has never just been about houses for me.

It’s about helping people connect with a lifestyle, a neighborhood, and a sense of community. Whether someone is moving across the country or simply relocating across town, they’re really searching for the place where their life will happen next.

And for me, these past few weeks have been a good reminder of why I love calling Falls Church and Lake Barcroft home.

Because sometimes the best parts of life happen quietly — in between the listings.
